What are the steps in a 6 step reframe?

The 6-step reframe is a classic NLP process for communicating with "parts" of the unconscious mind to resolve internal conflict and establish more productive behaviours.

  1. Identify the problem part and the problem behaviour.
  2. Set up direct communication with the problem part and acknowledge its benefits.
  3. Get clear signals from the part (e.g., ideological signals where a hand gets colder or warmer).
  4. Ask the part for its highest positive intention.
  5. Ask the person’s creative part to generate new choices or behaviours that would fulfill that same intention.
  6. Check for congruence: Ask if all other parts are in agreement. If not, go back to step 5.
  7. Test and Future Pace.
